I read about this technique on self-regulation and changed the name in the title to give that fake sciency sound so popular in academic papers. The way it works is if you encounter a distracting temptation, you treat the temptation as an unruly passenger on a bus and you (the driver) go read them the riot act for their intrusion. I played with it a bit and reminded me of the whole NLP “parts” thing that John Grinder and Richard Bandler spoke about in their approach to reframing. In the NLP approach if I recall correctly, you negotiated with your parts to find some kind of rapprochement or even “installed” parts. It would be like adding a passenger to your personality bus. Anyway I found it somewhat effective to deal with minor distractions.
